Services

Below you can find a brief desciption of the services I provide in the sphere of developing and promoting software products on the Spanish-language market. By the way, the list is far from being complete and I would be happy to work on other tasks, if they are related to what I do.

Software localization

Software localization is my primary profile. I teach programs to speak Spanish. To start the "education" process, I need the name of the program and links to the application, the website and documentation (if any). I provide clients with a cost and duration estimate. It's free.

Once I receive the customer's approval, the work starts. I study the structure of the multi-language interface (it's awesome if languages can be switched on-the-fly, as it really helps), use standard phrases and terms, test the program in the Spanish version of Windows and google for unfamiliar terms. When the work is complete, I usually contact the author and try to elucidate all the vague spots and correct small bugs that happen due to the change of text length: distorted controls, text not fitting into specific areas, wrong phrases constructed from smaller pieces, "sewn-in" units of measurement and other problems.

If the program does not support on-the-fly language switching and requires involvement of the developer, the process gets longer by one phase - testing after the implementation of the new resources. Apart from anything else, context inconsistencies are detected here, which is reflected in a detailed report. Once the necessary corrections have been made, the customer pays for the services.

Translations

I translate only IT-related texts from English (predominantly) and Russian. I always try to return translations in the same format as the original document (especially help files). While translating web sites, I work in the HTML code and don't change or break anything, as I do have corresponding coding skills. I also take account of the phrases found on screenshots and create a table with their transaltions. That's nothing complex - just tell me what you need to do, and I will ask you the necessary questions and request materials.
